When you enter the United States "on your passport" (as a traveler without a visa), it is because your home country has a close relationship with the United States and you are eligible to stay in the United States from 30 to 90 days.   You cannot change your status except in the most specific of circumstances.  We've been successful in related applications on cases coming into our office.
